The National Selection Commission for the Oscars* has chosen "Réfractaire" (Draft Dodgers) by Nicolas Steil, to represent the Grand-Duchy for the 82nd edition of the Academy Awards in the Best foreign Language category.
The movie is directed by Nicolas Steil and is a coproduction between Luxembourg (Iris Productions) and Switzerland (Cab Productions). The movie was shot entirely in Luxembourg with a great number of local technicians such as Carlo Thoss (sound), Christina Schaffer (production design), Uli Simon (costumes), Katja Reinert (hair and make-up) as well as André Mergenthaler et Michel Wintsch (music). Many local actors had parts as well: Luc Feit, Patrick Hastert, André Jung, Charles Muller, Marc Olinger and Thierry van Werveke who passed away earlier this year.
*The Selection Commission consists of representatives from the Audiovisual sector including the the Luxembourg Union of Audiovisual Production (ULPA), the Association of Directors and Scriptwriters (L’ARS), the Luxembourg Association of Audiovisual Technicians (ALTA), Film Fund Luxembourg and National Audiovisual Center (CNA).
